Wavy Malayan Sword is a submerged perennial herb,
growing in large patches. Cataphylls (small leaves) are upto 3 cm long,
linear-lanceshaped, convolute, deciduous. Leaves are white spotted,
alternate, stalked, sheathed ; sheaths overlapping 1-2 cm long, about 2
mm broad. Leaf-stalks are 1-7.5 cm long, about 2 mm broad, about equal
to the blade, strongly striped, above deeply grooved ; blade 1.5-9 x
0.5-1.5 cm, elliptic-lanceshaped, tapering, fleshy when fresh, becoming
thin on drying, margins wavy, base wedge-shaped ; midrib distinct.
Flower-cluster-stalk arises in leaf-axils, partly enclosed in the leaf
sheath, about 2 cm long, about 2 mm thick, round, strongly striped.
Spathe is about 2 cm long, about 7 mm broad at base, tubular below,
constricted in the middle, smooth with emphatic longitudinal parallel
veins ; limb ovate-tapering, slightly twisted, tip shortly hooked, dark
purple-blotched inside, obliquely septate at base within. Male
inflorescence is at tip, about 3.5 x 2.5 rnm cylindric. Female
inflorescence is about 3 mm below the male, spherical, about 3 mm in
diameter. Young aggregate fruit is green, spherical, about 4 mm in
diameter, enclosed in the persistent, cup-shaped basal part of the
spathe. Wavy Malayan Sword is native to Arunachal Pradesh.
